Position Overview
The Director of Education and Professional Development provides leadership and oversight for MMHC’s organization-wide training, supervision, and professional development programs. This role ensures excellence in clinical and non-clinical education, builds consistency and accountability across departments, and partners with leaders to elevate all training programs to organizational standards within defined timeframes.
This position owns and leads MMHC’s clinical development pathways—including intern, pre-licensed, emerging supervisor, and advanced practice programs—while supporting training and development across additional functional areas such as operations, billing, leadership, and administration. The Director also supports implementation and management of MMHC’s Learning Management System (LMS) and tracks progress on training metrics.
The Director partners closely with the Director of Compliance and reports to the Senior Director of Clinical Education, Culture, and Community Engagement. The role also maintains an outpatient therapy caseload and provides clinical supervision to pre-licensed clinicians.
Key Responsibilities
Training, Supervision, and Development
- Lead and enhance MMHC’s Education and Professional Development Program, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
- Oversee training and development initiatives across all departments, ensuring consistency and alignment with organizational standards, values, and compliance.
- Partner with leaders across departments to ensure all required trainings meet defined quality benchmarks and completion timelines.
- Develop and lead MMHC’s Clinical Development Pathways, including:
- • Intern Program: onboarding, didactic training, supervision, and evaluation processes.
- • Pre-Licensed Program: skill development, documentation standards, and supervision.
- • Emerging Supervisor Program: leadership readiness and supervisory competencies.
- • Advanced Practice Program: advanced clinical skills and ongoing professional growth.
- Support the development of organizational training programs beyond clinical disciplines (e.g., customer service, operations, compliance, and culture training).
- Collaborate on the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Learning Management System (LMS) and ensure accurate tracking of completion and performance data.
- Maintain and evolve training documentation, manuals, and policies to meet licensure and accreditation standards.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Partner with senior leadership to assess organizational training needs and set annual training goals and timelines.
- Provide coaching and consultation to leaders to strengthen departmental training capacity and accountability.
- Support budget development and fiscal-year planning for the Community Engagement and Education department.
- Collaborate with Operations and Data teams to improve tracking of referral sources, engagement metrics, and training outcomes.
- Participate in strategic planning, performance improvement, and leadership meetings related to education, supervision, and staff engagement.
Clinical Practice
- Maintain a small outpatient therapy caseload to model best practices in care delivery, documentation, and collaboration.
- Provide direct clinical supervision to assigned pre-licensed clinicians.
- Integrate training and development principles into clinical care and daily operations.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in a mental health field (Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology).
- Independent licensure in Minnesota (LICSW, LMFT, LPCC, or LP).
- Minimum 5 years of post-licensure clinical experience.
- At least 3 years of leadership or program development experience in education, training, or supervision.
- Demonstrated success in designing or implementing organization-wide training initiatives.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems and adult learning principles preferred.
