What are some common questions about Psychiatry?

A Psychiatrist is a specially-trained medical doctor who has developed the expertise to delve more closely into the biochemistry of the brain — to try to adjust chemical imbalances that can cause mental distress and other mental disorders. That said, some psychiatrists also offer psychological counseling.

Generally speaking, a Psychologist is a Mental Health Professional who is trained to help individuals better understand themselves and learn why they behave in certain ways, and to help those individuals modify their perceptions and adjust their behaviors to achieve greater happiness and fulfillment. But our Psychiatrists & Psychologists work hand in had to deliver the right-fit care plan for you.

During your first meeting with your MMHC Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioner, they’ll ask about your symptoms and medical history. They may also conduct physical tests to rule out underlying conditions. Based on these evaluations, they can provide an accurate diagnosis and recommend treatment as needed.

No, you may not always be prescribed medication as part of your treatment. Our MMHC Psychiatrists take into account the whole person, past experiences, mental & physiological history to design a personalized treatment plan for you, which may include medication support.

Should I work with a therapist first?

If you are not or have not worked with a therapist or counselor outside of Psychiatry, we strongly recommend having a consultation to understand your needs or what brings you to seek medication support.
