Intensive Outpatient Program for Autism

About the Program

MMHC has expanded its services to those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at our Apple Valley site.  The Intensive Outpatient Program for ASD is a 6-week program that takes place for 3 hours a day (Monday – Thursday 12:00pm-3:00pm).  It is designed to provide treatment for individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder between the ages of 18-25 who need more support than what weekly individual therapy or social skills can offer.

Who Would Benefit From This Program?

This program is designed for individuals ages 18-25 with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or one of the past diagnoses now included in the category of Autism Spectrum Disorder, which includes:

  • Asperger’s syndrome
  • Autistic disorder
  • Pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS)
  • Childhood disintegrative disorder

An appropriate candidate for the program would also be someone who could benefit from more intensive treatment, but does not require in-patient hospitalization, can maintain physical safety towards themselves and others, does not require one-to-one support, and can function in a group setting.

What is Covered in the Program?

Throughout the 6 weeks, specific topics will be covered each week.  These include:

  • Psychoeducation
  • Social interactions, communication, and boundaries
  • Emotion identification and regulation skills
  • Creating a healthy and balanced lifestyle
  • Self-esteem and stigma
  • Education, employment, and independent living

Parent/caregiver involvement, individual/family meetings, coordination of care, and progress reviews are also included. Please call for information regarding insurance coverage.

We take a strengths-based approach, built upon acceptance, exploration, effectiveness, connection, and empowerment.
