Q&A
What was your path to becoming a mental health professional?
I have always been interested in the "why". Why do people do what they do? Why do people make the decisions they make? Why did I just do that? For me, the why is often more important than the behavior itself.
What should clients expect when working with you?
People find me to be different than the stereotypical behavioral health provider. I worked in other fields before coming to mental health and I bring that experience with me. Don't get me wrong, I can sometimes be caught wearing a cardigan, but I try to use every-day language and I wield a quirky sense of humor. If we work together, I will encourage you to be an active part of the process. I will ask difficult questions, encourage you to try new tactics, and ask that you to work harder than I do.
If you could be doing anything else, what would it be?
If I had to do something other than behavioral health, it would probably be exploring the world. I love ancient civilizations, archeological sites, medieval and renaissance architecture, trying new foods, and new experiences. Sometimes exploring/traveling can be scarry, but you have to push past that to get to the good stuff.
