Most skills groups (DBT, anger management) and STAT IOP have virtual options. DaTRAC Trauma IOP is in-person only. Ask your Intake Coordinator about format when booking.

MMHC runs several adult group programs β€” from skills-based groups like DBT and anger management to intensive outpatient programs for more acute needs. Group is often the right step when individual therapy alone isn't enough.

Who this is for

You might be here because…

  • You want practical skills you can use day-to-day for managing emotions, anger, or distress
  • Individual therapy alone hasn't been enough and you're ready for more structure
  • You're stepping down from a higher level of care (inpatient, residential) and need ongoing support
  • You're looking for an intensive outpatient program (IOP) without leaving work or home
  • You want to know you're not alone β€” group puts you with others working on similar things

What to expect

A clear path to getting started.

  1. Book a virtual intake

Schedule online or talk with an Intake Coordinator about what you're looking for. They'll match you to the group that fits β€” anger management, DBT, IOP, or another option β€” based on your goals and schedule.

  2. Pre-group assessment

Before joining, you'll meet with the group facilitator one-on-one. They'll explain the format, set expectations, and make sure the group is the right fit.

  3. Join the group

Most groups meet weekly. Skills groups (DBT, anger management) are typically 8–16 weeks. IOPs (STAT, DaTRAC) run more intensively β€” multiple days per week for several weeks.

  4. Step-down or continue

When you finish a group, you'll work with your facilitator on what's next β€” continued individual therapy, a different group, or a maintenance plan.

Common questions

Frequently asked

  • Will I have to talk in group?

You won't be forced to. Most groups have an opening check-in where everyone shares briefly, but how much you say beyond that is your call. Many people start out listening and find their voice over time as trust builds.

  • What's the difference between DBT and IOP?

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) groups are skills-based β€” once a week, focused on teaching specific tools for managing emotions, distress, and relationships. IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program) is more comprehensive: multiple days per week, combining group, individual, and skills work, designed for people who need more support than weekly therapy provides.

  • Can I be in group AND individual therapy at the same time?

Yes β€” and many people do both. Group teaches skills and offers connection; individual therapy goes deep on what's specific to you. Some groups (like our IOPs) include individual sessions as part of the program.

  • Is group therapy covered by insurance?

Usually yes. Most of our group programs are covered by the same insurance plans we accept for individual therapy. Our front desk can verify your specific benefits before you start.

  • What's STAT and DaTRAC?

Both are MMHC's adult intensive outpatient programs. STAT (Skills, Therapy, And Tools) focuses on stabilization and skills-building; DaTRAC is designed around trauma-informed care. Your Intake Coordinator can walk you through the difference and which fits your situation.
