Q&A
What was your path to becoming a mental health professional?
After graduating college with a journalism degree, I joined the MN National Guard. It was on my deployment where I discovered a passion for talking my fellow soldiers through difficult times. I ended up applying for graduate school upon my return and started my career at the Minneapolis VA working with veterans.
What should clients expect when working with you?
Clients can expect an individualized approach. There is no one size fits all approach to therapy and I enjoy working with each client to find what works best for them. I am open and non-judgemental and I truly enjoy the work that I do.
If you could be doing anything else, what would it be?
Looking back, my favorite job prior to graduate school was being a lifeguard at an outdoor waterpark. I often reflect on what I loved about that job and it was being outside and witnessing joy and happiness. So if I had to choose another career path, it would be something where I could be outdoors, surrounded by people having fun...perhaps a park ranger or something along those lines.
