Q&A
What was your path to becoming a mental health professional?
I graduated from the College of Saint Benedict with a major in Psychology and a minor in Music, where my interest and passion for mental health really began to flourish. I then worked at a residential mental health center for six months, working primarily with adult women and LGBTQ+ clients with a variety of concerns, including depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and more. I then attended the Master of Arts in Psychological Science (MAPS) program at the University of Minnesota Duluth for two years, where I recently graduated in May 2024. Immediately following, I was hired as an Unlicensed Outpatient Therapist at MMHC, and I'm looking forward to growing alongside my clients under this organization!
What should clients expect when working with you?
I do my best to meet clients where they are at, no matter what. I like to get to know my clients' expectations regarding therapy and cater to each person's individual needs. I have a good understanding of a variety of therapeutic modalities, primarily Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also like to incorporate strengths-based approaches into my practice, working to both alleviate problems/concerns while also enhancing and highlighting the things that are going well.
If you could be doing anything else, what would it be?
I love all things music, especially singing, attending concerts, playing piano, and learning guitar. I actually thought about working toward a career in music but decided to pursue my passion in psychology instead. In my free time, I enjoy spending time outdoors, especially hikes or being in water (lakes, pools, etc.). Additionally, I love trying and exploring local restaurants, coffee shops, and breweries, so let me know if you have any recommendations!
