Q&A
What was your path to becoming a mental health professional?
I loved studying psychology, and my undergraduate work with international students in a writing center drew me to pursue a master's degree in social work. I entered graduate school with plans to become a therapist but fell in love with medical social work and did that for 10 years before circling back to therapy. My most important teachers have all the clients and family systems I have worked with over the years.
What should clients expect when working with you?
You can expect openness, humor, gentle challenges, and a safe space to be your authentic self. We develop goals as anchor points for sessions while leaving room to explore other issues. I bring curiosity, key questions, and feedback on patterns to help you build awareness and new perspectives. When helpful, we practice skills for stress management, emotional regulation, healthy relationships, and improving focus/organization. I encourage reflection or trying new approaches between sessions to support your progress toward change.
If you could be doing anything else, what would it be?
Before I decided on my career path, I always dreamed of being an actor, author, singer/songwriter, or a wildlife educator.
